Join the Christmas Story 2026

Everyone has a place in the Christmas story – come and find yours!

This Christmas, we’re inviting everyone to become part of the Nativity story at St Nicholas’ Church, Bathampton, through our free, family-friendly Join the Christmas Story activity.

Come along to church and personalise your very own peg doll using the coloured pens provided. Your doll will represent you in our beautiful Nativity scene, joining Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds, the wise men and the many others who gathered around the first Christmas.

Once your peg doll is decorated, make a note of its number on your Join the Christmas Story card to take home, then use Blu Tack to add your doll to the Nativity scene. You’ll be helping us create a wonderful display that grows as more people from our community join in.

The Christmas story is a story of welcome, hope and belonging. From the shepherds to the wise men, people from all walks of life were invited to be part of it – and that invitation continues today. Whether you’re a regular churchgoer, have never visited us before, or simply fancy a creative activity with the family, you are warmly welcome.

When can I take part?

Drop into St Nicholas’ Church at any of the following times:

Saturday 21st November: 10.00am–4.00pm

Sunday 22nd November: 12.30pm–4.00pm

Monday 23rd November: 3.30pm–6.00pm

The activity is completely free and open to everyone. There’s no need to book – simply drop in, decorate your peg doll and add yourself to the story!

Your peg doll will remain part of our Nativity display over Christmas. Then, on Wednesday 6th January 2027 at 3.45pm, join us for our new Epiphany Blessing Service – a short, 20-minute, family-friendly service featuring the peg dolls. Afterwards, you can collect your own peg doll and take it home.

We’ll do everything we can to keep the peg dolls safe while they’re on display, although St Nick’s cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage.

Come and join us!

We can’t wait to see our Nativity scene fill with people from across Bathampton and beyond. Come and be part of something special this Christmas, and remember that, wherever you are on your journey, there is a place for you in the Christmas story.

We look forward to welcoming you to St Nicholas’ Church, Bathampton!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

St Nicholas’ Bathampton is a church family to which all are welcome. We meet together to help us to get to know Jesus better, enjoy friendship with each other, and reach out in service to our community. We want to encourage each other to live radically transformed lives of faith and love.

You're very welcome to join us at any of our services. St Nicholas’ meets at the parish church by the canal bridge for our Sunday Service starting at 10:45am. Coffee is served after the service. Junior Church on Sunday is for school-aged children from 4-14 years old. We spend the first 15-20 minutes in church with the adults before going to our groups for about 40 minutes.

The church is open everyday from 10am to 3pm except Mondays for visitors to the Arthur Phillip display and for prayer. Please do contact our church administrator for a special visit on office@stnicholasbathampton.org.uk.

Please do take a look at our Visitor Information Leaflet.

Home Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have two groups that meet on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Check out Home Groups to find out more, or we can put you in touch with a home group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
